On the PengPod image download page the images with -and- in their name are the Android images.

You will also need the LiveSuit package and a Windows machine.

Neal has just posted instructions in the Wiki - How To section on how to install Android on the internal flash.

The tricky part is getting the timing right to get device into FEL mode to run LiveSuit.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification—I'd assume 'and' meant literally 'and'. =) Seeing as I don't have any Windows machines, I'll have to keep looking for solutions. Glad to see the documentation base growing!

Well it looks like LiveSuit can run on Linux according to the linux-sunxi.org wiki:

I just haven't tried it yet.

Here is the link for how to flash Android on, including the link for the official image http://pengpod.com/pengwiki/index.php?title=Install_Android_to_the_internal_flash

Have same exact problem. No wifi device in Linux. Downloaded and flashed Android. Wifi does not work :( It shows "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message but then the button goes back from ON to OFF.

I think we have a kernel regression that is causing this in certain devices. I am looking into it now. I'm really suprised switching to Android didn't fix it though, all these devices had the wifi tested in Android by us at PengPod before they advanced to shipping or flashing.

More info on this soon.

Oh, one thought for Android. You might try unplugging it and giving it a ten second press of the reset button, that should hard reset everything as well as can be done (without just letting the battery drain) in case the Linux version left the chipset in some unusable state even a proper driver can't fix.

I had seen this before one on of our embedded systems. Basically if the system reset without removing the module the device wouldn't reinitialize until it was power cycled.

Ok, its looking better here. I grabbed some devices of the shelf here and tested:

1) The ones that have problems appear in lsusb as 0bda:8179
2) The ones that work appear as 0bda:8176
3) This has come up for other devices, this is the rtl8188eu chipset

So good news, I seem to have a bead on the problem. I am in the process of adding a working driver from several available I found. This should be solved shortly.

If you have a device with the Wifi not showing up, please perform the lsusb check and give some results here ESPECIALLY if its not the 8179.

Hey Neal, Strange here. :)

Wireless not working on my pp1000, ran lsusb. Found 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Consistent with what you've noted, sounds like we're getting close. :)

Ok, I have the wifi fix. If you wifi is not working you need a new driver, http://pengpod.com/dl/images/8188eu.ko this driver needs to be copied to /lib/modules/3.0.57+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rtl8188eu and I think you'll need to run 'depmod -a' as well. My apologies, I realize its a little difficult without the wifi working.

A reset might be required but I think it detects without having to add anything to the /etc/modules file. I'll have a post for everyone with this tomorrow.
